This week has been spent processing a lot of photos that were shot during last week’s Team and Individual photo shoot for the Mountain States Renegades.  I have spent quite a bit of time trying to iron out my new workflow using Lightroom 2.1 and Photoshop CS3 together.  For the first time in recent memory I did the entire photoshoot in RAW. Using Lightroom on the front end really makes shooting in RAW nice and easy.  I always shied away from shooting in RAW exclusively due to the extra headache in processing and managing the RAW file. I even went one step further and made a commitment to importing all files in Adobe DNG format. DNG seems to be the way to move forward with RAW since pretty much all RAW formats are unique to not only the manufacturer, but often times unique to the individual camera. DNG is to RAW files what PDF is to documents.

One shot from the team and individual photo shoot stuck out for me.  When my son first started playing hockey there was a kid on his team that was a year older than him.  Our paths crossed many, many times over the years and I got the opportunity to shoot this nice young man with his younger brother.  I think the image speaks for itself.

I also did a photo shoot for the local High School Sadie Hawkins dance this weekend. Although we didn’t make a ton of money at the event, we still had a good time.  There was a young couple that took the meaning of Sadie Hawkins to a new level.

Cool Sites

Here are some cool sites that I came across this week.

Lightroom Forums.  What can I say, a great place to answer questions and get advice regarding Lightroom.

A guy I ride motorcycles with had a revolutionary idea that he was able to execute on pretty successfully.  He was doing a ‘semi-live’ ride report using his iPhone and a flickr account. As his ride would progress and as cell phone service would dictate, he would upload photos as he rode. The link on the ADVRider website would be automatically updated as he added photos. Here is his thread.

Blogging from an iPhone

November 10, 2008

The iPhone has been out for quite sometime and has been a wonderful platform not only for phone usage but also for all other means of communication. Email, texting, and Internet browsing were great right from the start, however, the functionality really tapered off there. Then, several months ago, Apple allowed third party developers to [...]

Friday's Downloads

November 7, 2008

Well, we made it through another week. I had several photo shoots this week including a calendar shoot for a group of women trying to raise money for a scholarship program.  I will be reporting on this much later when things start developing. Then on my way to my son’s hockey game I ran across [...]

Laptop and Equipment

November 6, 2008

I have been watching the new MacBookPro release with great interest. I tuned into Apple’s big release announcement to see all the new features revealed.  I was instantly impressed with the new all metal chassis and the very high end graphics capability built into the laptop. New releases always come with certain bugs which is [...]

Photography thoughts for the day

November 5, 2008

Today I did a little research into different photographic styles that I like and perhaps would like to emulate at times.  There are many talented photographers and learning and gleaning a little bit of information from each person you run across can help mold your own style.  I am not sure if I have my [...]

Old Flowers Road to Monument Gulch

November 4, 2008

I am catching up on some old riding news as I get my blog fired back up. Back on September 25, Travis Wilcox and I headed out for an early Fall ride.  We decided to ride a relatively easy trail just outside of Masonville.  The ride comprises about 20 miles of asphalt before hitting the [...]

2006 KTM 450 EXC

November 4, 2008

In August of this year I took the plunge and bought a KTM dirtbike. I have been riding a 2001 Yamaha YZ426 for the last several years and decided it was time to get something more modern and something that had a taller top gear for the inevitable highway sections that I have to cover [...]
